Vision

We have had the privilege of providing many people struggling in poverty with a decent home to live in. But the questions we wrestle with have always been, what more could we do to see lasting transformation happen for these families? Are we simply giving them a fish? Or are we teaching them to fish? Is what we are doing God’s best for these families? There is a time and place for everything, not everyone is ready for the next step. But for those who are, what more can be done? This is where Family Jubilee comes in!

Family Jubilee is a discipleship program that God has placed on our hearts. The name comes from the book of Leviticus. When God provided the Hebrew people the Year of Jubilee or a sabbatical year. This was to be a year of personal liberty, restitution, and simple living. During this time, they were instructed to free their fellow Hebrews from the bondage of slavery, to return indebted property to the original owners, and to depend on God for their sustenance as they were not to work the land. They were to trust God to provide for them from the previous year’s harvest.

In the same manner, this will be a Sabbatical year for families who are struggling in poverty. It’s a year, in which they can receive Biblical teaching and counseling, where they can discover God’s heart and call on their lives. We will provide practical opportunities and tools for them to grow as individuals and as a family. It’s a year where God can provide them with true freedom from the bondages that they may have in their lives. Whether that be an addiction, a poverty mentality, or anything else that keeps them from walking in freedom through Christ Jesus. The end goal is to see them be transformed and gain a Biblical worldview. To have a clear understanding of God’s purpose for their lives and the tools in which to pursue that purpose.

Overview

During this year, the families will live onsite in a community setting, they will participate in a structured program, which will allow them to experience self-discovery as God opens their eyes to His truths and plans for them. They will take part in the following activities: Biblical instruction, practical skills training, personal and family counseling, community life, volunteer work, as well as financial responsibility training.

Our desire is for families to complete the program and be ready to pursue the dream and calling God has placed in their hearts. They will have been provided with the tools and opportunities they need to see those dreams become a reality and fulfill that calling.
